Delicious homemade cinnamon sugar twist donuts that are perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/2 cup of sugar until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch thick.
- Using a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one larger and one smaller), cut out donuts and holes from the dough.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F. Carefully add the donuts to the hot oil, frying a few at a time for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix together the 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. While the donuts are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a chocolate twist, add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients and use chocolate glaze instead of cinnamon sugar.
- Try adding a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon sugar for an extra flavor kick.
