Description

Crispy Wheat Chicharrones are a delicious and crunchy snack made from wheat flour, perfect for dipping or enjoying on their own.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups harina de trigo (wheat flour)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Mix well until evenly combined.
  2. Gradually add water, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  6. Roll each ball into a thin circle, about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  8. Once the oil is hot, carefully add one or two dough circles at a time.
  9. Fry until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  10. Remove the chicharrones from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them plain or with your favorite salsa.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the dough mixture.
  • Serve with guacamole or salsa for dipping to enhance the flavor.
