Description

A delightful recipe for cruffins, a hybrid of croissants and muffins, filled with pastry cream and dusted with powdered sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup pastry cream or your favorite filling (e.g., chocolate, fruit)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Spread the pastry cream evenly over the dough.
  9. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  10. Place each piece upright in a greased muffin tin, allowing some space between them.
  11. Cover the muffin tin with a towel and let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • For a chocolate twist, substitute the pastry cream with chocolate ganache.
  • You can also add a sprinkle of cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor.
