- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter or cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and melted butter. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
- Gently fold in the thawed frozen shredded hash browns with a spatula until coated.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Smooth the top.
- In a small bowl, mix the crushed cornflakes or buttery crackers with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle on top of the casserole.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 10 minutes before serving.
