Ingredients

For the Milkshake
  • 2 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream Use vegan ice cream for a dairy-free alternative.
  • 1 cup Milk Any kind except canned coconut milk; unsweetened cashew milk is a great vegan option.
  • 2 tablespoons Black Cocoa Powder Avoid regular cocoa for the best taste and visual appeal.
  • 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup Honey can substitute for non-vegan version.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Omit for a more chocolate-forward taste if desired.
For Toppings (Optional)
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream Can be left out for vegan and paleo variations.
  • 2 tablespoons Black Sanding Sugar Regular sugar can be used if you don’t have this on hand.

Equipment

  • blender
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Hand mixer
  • Serving Glasses

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by pouring heavy cream into a mixing bowl. Whip the cream using a hand mixer on medium speed for about 3-5 minutes until stiff peaks form. Transfer to the refrigerator to chill.
  2. Brush the rims of serving glasses with maple syrup, then dip the wet rims into black sanding sugar. Chill the glasses for about 10 minutes.
  3. In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, black cocoa powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Blend on high speed for about 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  4. Check the consistency; if too thick, add a splash of milk and blend again until desired thickness is achieved.
  5. Pour the creamy Black Milkshake into prepared glasses. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with additional black sanding sugar or chocolate shavings.
