Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Pumpkin Sour Cream Donuts
  1. Prepare the spiced sugar coating by mixing granulated sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup, adding milk until smooth.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices. In another bowl, cream brown sugar and butter, then add eggs, vanilla, sour cream, and pumpkin. Mix well.
  3. Chill the blended batter for at least three hours. Roll out the donut dough to ¾ inch thick, cut out donuts, and collect scraps for rerolling.
  4. Heat oil to 365°F - 375°F. Fry donuts for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Cool briefly, then coat half in spiced sugar and dip the rest in maple glaze.
