Ingredients

For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar Adds sweetness to balance the savory flavors; substitute with honey or coconut sugar if needed.
  • 1/4 cup Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce Delivers umami without too much salt; regular soy sauce can replace it if preferred.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil Infuses a nutty aroma into the dish; you can use olive oil as a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Red-Pepper Flakes Introduce spice; adjust the amount to meet your preferred heat level.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger Enhances flavor with warming notes; fresh ginger can be used for an extra kick.
For the Beef Bowl
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil Ideal for cooking beef; canola or avocado oil are great alternatives.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Provides a delightful aromatic flavor; fresh minced garlic is best but garlic powder works in a pinch.
  • 1 pound Ground Beef The main protein source that gives a hearty texture; you can substitute it with ground turkey, chicken, or tofu for a lighter option.
  • 2 stalks Green Onions Adds freshness and delightful crunch; feel free to use finely sliced scallions or chives.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds Perfect for garnishing, adding a toasty flavor; optional but highly recommended for that beautiful presentation.

Equipment

  • large cast-iron skillet
  • small bowl

Method

Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, reduced sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, crushed red-pepper flakes, and ground ginger until smooth.
  2. On medium-high heat, warm 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large cast-iron skillet until shimmering.
  3. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic to the hot skillet and sauté for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Introduce 1 pound of ground beef into the skillet, using a spatula to break it apart as it cooks.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked ground beef. Add the sliced green onions and stir well to incorporate, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat, and serve your Quick Korean Beef Bowls immediately, garnishing with extra green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
